Guide to Using VAL and the Resources

If you can't see any of the animations or video it might be for the following reasons?

You need to update your FlashPlayer to version 10. The animations should prompt you to do this.

If you have Internet Explorer version 7.0 you may need to alter your internet security settings.
Open up explorer / Tools / Internet Options / Security
Set your security level to Medium (and no higher).

You might need to upload or update QuickTime if you are viewing the MP4 files.

Whilst every effort is made to produce resources compatible with other internet brower software, you may experience problems with Mozilla Firefox particularly with handling images.

If you have Broadband you should be fine. If you are looking at these resources over a wireless connection, you may experience slow downloads if the network is having a wobble.

Problems with sound?

Make sure your PC volume is turned up - in the lower right corner menu bar click on the loud speaker symbol and deselect mute or raise the volume as required.

If your PC monitor has in-built speakers, go to the menu, which is usually activated by the buttons just below the actual screen, and ensure sound is set as required.

In busy student computer labs we have noticed that occasionally the sound cable is unplugged at the back of the computer.

Pages take time to load?

It may be a problem specific to your PC security settings. The site has been tested on a number of laptops, PCs, under wireless connectivity and mobile devices, so problems loading should not be due to the size of the animation or video files.
