VAL is an on-line resource designed by staff in the School of Allied Health Sciences at De Montfort University, Leicester. Since 2008 the resources have been used to help bioscience students to build their confidence in the laboratory and gain essential skills, from pipetting, microscopy and basic microbiological techniques. VAL is part of the UK Centre for Bioscience project which has released open educational resources (OERs) to support life sciences.

You can access these resources in FOUR WAYS whether you are using a PC or mobile device:

1) On this website under "VAL Resources", the tiny URL is www.tinyurl.com/oerval
2) via iTunes to view them there or synchronise to a mobile device
3) via an RSS feed where you can save to your PC and upload to a mobile device
4) you can download then from JORUMOPEN www.jorum.ac.uk.

NEW OER Project Starts September 2010
SCOOTER - Sickle Cell Open, Online Topics and Educational Resources is a new OER project funded by HEFCE and part of the JISC/HEA OER Programme. SCOOTER is releasing materials on the subjects of sickle cell and thalassaemia, not just for life sciences but for social science, arts, humanities, law and politics. SCOOTER is a cross-faculty project at De Montfort University, and is providing much needed educational resources to meet the needs of thalassaemia and sickle cell anaemia communities.
